Hawkeye Fire & Safety - Iowa City Austin Chadima

About

Hawkeye Fire & Safety was founded in 1979 by William L. Chadima Sr. as a fire and safety services provider in Eastern Iowa, originally spun off from a welding supply business. The company built its reputation on reliable fire extinguisher services and carbonic gas delivery and quickly became known for trusted, honest service and industry knowledge. In 1991, leadership transitioned to Bill Chadima Jr., who expanded the business into a broader fire protection and life safety supplier. Under his guidance, Hawkeye Fire & Safety diversified offerings to include fire suppression systems, hydrostatic testing, emergency lighting, and extensive first aid and workplace safety products — meeting the growing needs of commercial, industrial, municipal, and residential customers throughout the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City regions. Today, the company is led in a new generation by Austin Chadima, who took over leadership in 2020 and has focused on modernizing service delivery, enhancing customer support, and expanding preventative compliance programs such as monthly fire extinguisher inspections. Another key leader, Tyler Chadima, launched the first aid supply division, broadening the company’s scope to include PPE, medical restocking programs, and safety supplies that complement core fire protection services. Hawkeye Fire & Safety offers a comprehensive suite of services like fire extinguisher inspection & maintenance, hydrostatic testing for cylinders, fire containment cabinets, restaurant and industrial fire suppression systems, emergency lighting, safety training, and first aid/restocking programs. The company also supplies beverage gas (CO?, nitrogen, and blends) with delivery and refill services. With offices in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City, Iowa, Hawkeye Fire & Safety continues to serve diverse markets including businesses, hospitals, fire departments, contractors, municipalities, education facilities, and residential customers, building on over 40 years of trusted service and compliance expertise.
