It does not apply to websites or services of third parties, including businesses listed in the directory. By accessing or using the Site, or by giving us any information, you consent to the collection, use, disclosure, and retention of your information as described in this Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Site. We receive limited information from the processor, such as the cardholder name, the card type, the last four digits, and whether the payment succeeded. The processor’s use of your information is governed by its own privacy policy.

Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, our servers and service providers may automatically record:

  • IP address, browser type, device type, and operating system
  • Pages viewed, search terms and directory filters used, referring website, and the date and time of your visit
  • Approximate location derived from your IP address
  • Information collected through cookies and similar technologies (see Section 6)

We also use security tools, such as form tokens and spam filters, to protect accounts and forms from abuse.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, provide, maintain, and secure the Site, your account, and your directory listing
  • Publish, display, promote, and distribute your listing, on the Site and in our marketing, social media, newsletters, and advertising, and match it to searches
  • Process membership payments, automatic renewals, discount codes, and collections
  • Communicate with you about your account, your membership, and the Site, including administrative, transactional, and promotional messages
  • Market and advertise HFB Expert, our memberships, and products and services of our affiliates, sponsors, and business partners, where permitted by law
  • Analyze use of the Site, conduct research, and develop new products, features, and services
  • Create aggregated, de-identified, or anonymized data, which we own and may use and share for any lawful purpose
  • Detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, spam, security incidents, and violations of our Terms of Use
  • Comply with legal obligations, enforce our agreements, and establish, exercise, or defend legal claims
  • For any other purpose disclosed to you when the information is collected, or with your consent

4. Public Directory Listings

Information in your listing is public. The purpose of the Site is to let hospitality businesses find you. Depending on your membership tier and settings, your listing may display your name, company or brand name, business address, phone numbers, email address, website, role, categories, and service area to anyone who visits the Site, and it may be indexed by search engines.

You are solely responsible for the information you choose to include in your listing. We are not responsible for how visitors, listed businesses, search engines, data aggregators, or other third parties collect, copy, or use information you make public. Once published, information may remain in search engine caches, archives, and third-party sites even after you edit or delete it, and we have no obligation to remove it from those places.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only as follows:

  • Public listings. Listing information is shared with Site visitors and the public, as described in Section 4.
  • Affiliates. We may share information with our current and future parents, subsidiaries, and affiliates under common ownership or control.
  • Service providers. We share information with vendors that perform services for us, such as hosting, payment processing, email delivery, data storage, analytics, marketing, and customer support.
  • Sponsors and business partners. We may share business contact information from listings (such as name, company, business email, phone, category, and service area) with sponsors, industry partners, and event organizers that offer products or services to the hospitality industry.
  • Legal, safety, and enforcement. We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary or appropriate to comply with law or legal process, respond to government requests, enforce our Terms of Use, collect amounts owed, or protect the rights, property, or safety of HFB Expert, our users, or others.
  • Business transfers. Information is a business asset. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, or sale of all or part of our assets, your information may be sold or transferred as part of that transaction, and the acquirer may use it as described in this Policy.
  • With your consent or at your direction.

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably identify you.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, protect forms and accounts, remember your preferences, and understand how the Site is used. We use Google Analytics. You can learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and opt out at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. If you block essential cookies, some features, such as logging in, may not work.

Do Not Track. Some browsers send “Do Not Track” signals. Because there is no uniform standard for these signals, the Site does not currently respond to them.

Third parties do not collect personally identifiable information about your online activities over time and across different websites when you use the Site, except as described above for the analytics providers listed in this Section.

7. Third-Party Websites and Listed Businesses

The Site links to websites of listed businesses and to our pages on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites or businesses. If you contact a listed business, the information you give it is governed by that business’s own policies.

8. How Long We Keep Information

We keep information for as long as we decide it is needed for the purposes described in this Policy, including after you close your account, unless a longer or shorter period is required by law. We may keep backups, archives, transaction records, and aggregated or de-identified data indefinitely.

9. How We Protect Information

We take commercially reasonable steps to protect information. However, no website, transmission, or storage system is secure, and we do not guarantee and are not responsible for the security of any information you transmit to or store on the Site. You provide information at your own risk. You are solely responsible for keeping your password confidential and for all activity under your account. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any unauthorized access to, or use, alteration, or disclosure of, your information, and any such claim is subject to the limitations in our Terms of Use. If the law requires us to notify you of a security breach, we may do so by email, by a notice on the Site, or by any other method the law permits.

10. Your Choices

  • Review and update. You can review and change your account and listing information at any time by logging in, or by contacting us.
  • Close your account. You can ask us to close your account and remove your listing by contacting us at [email protected].
  • Marketing email. You can opt out of promotional email by clicking “unsubscribe” in any such message or by contacting us. We will still send administrative messages about your account.
  • Cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

11. Notice to Nevada Residents

This Policy describes the categories of covered information we collect (Section 2), the categories of third parties with whom we share it (Section 5), how you can review and request changes to your information (Section 10), whether third parties collect information about your online activities (Section 6), how we notify you of material changes (Section 15), and the Effective Date shown at the top of this Policy.

We do not sell covered information as defined in NRS 603A.333. Nevada residents may still submit a request directing us not to sell their covered information by emailing [email protected] with the subject line “Nevada Opt-Out Request.” We will respond within 60 days, as required by law.

12. Notice to California Residents

California residents may request information about whether we have disclosed personal information to third parties for their direct marketing purposes (Cal. Civ. Code § 1798.83). We do not share personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

13. Users Outside the United States

The Site is operated from the United States, and your information will be processed and stored in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country. If you are in the United Kingdom, we process your information to perform our contract with you (your membership), for our legitimate interests in operating and securing the directory, to comply with legal obligations, and with your consent where required. Depending on where you live, including the UK and Canada, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. You may also complain to your local data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

14. Children

The Site is a business directory intended for adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

15. Changes to This Policy

We may change this Policy at any time, in our sole discretion. Changes take effect when we post the updated Policy on this page with a new Effective Date. We may, but are not required to, give additional notice. You are responsible for reviewing this Policy periodically. By continuing to use the Site after changes are posted, you accept the updated Policy. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Site and close your account.
